This past week was less of exploring the land but more so of interacting with individuals. I had so much fun! To start off the week I headed to Vancouver where I met up with family members, college teachers and multiple friends. All of it was a blast and I always hope to head back to visit and explore even more. On Saturday a friend and I went to East Van and explored a bit. It was there that we found the graffiti on the walls of a studio. This graffiti was really cool as there were obviously multiple talented artists, however, all the images still blended together and complimented each other. That is the graffiti that I enjoy seeing.
Unfortunately I was not able to stay in Vancouver long but I did end up going to Abbotsford. There, I got to meet the Fraser Valley Gleaners. I was so impressed with how efficient everything was running. On average about 50-60 volunteers show up every morning, each one of them being welcoming and sharing of their knowledge. With that number of people it's no surprise we got as much done as we did. Definitely something I hope to do again.
I left Abbotsford and slowly started to head my way to Kelowna. On the way I stopped in a town called Keremeos. It's a small place with a lot of fruit stands! I think I saw 3 on 2 blocks. But the fruit is delicious and fresh! Now, something that a lot of photographers (including myself) have trouble with is to talk to random strangers, especially if they aren't a client. Most people that struggle with this will hopefully find a way to handle it. I have improved over the years already (especially with school) but still have a ways to go. Having that in mind along my journey I have decided to stop and do random volunteering if I can. Well, this week I did just that. I saw some people harvesting apples and I asked if they needed help for a bit. I ended up helping for an hour, and the 3 workers were very kind and taught me a lot about the apples and the area.Â
They also have the coolest bags to put fruit in! After my short spurt of apple picking I headed out to meet up in Kelowna with Kayley, a fellow photographer from back home. However, that experience falls onto week 4 and is for another blog. Stay tuned and remember to follow me on Facebook and Instagram where I post regularly. Even more images can be found in my 'Across Canada' gallery as well!
